11/27/2002 Entry: "Thanksgiving Challenge"
I have been reading back on some of my blog entries and some of those of my online recovering friends. the greatest impact upon me is how much we have grown. there is much about my life today that is critically better than it was a few years, even months ago.
i'd challenge all who read this to post a list of "Five Things for Which I am Grateful" I'll start.
1. my family (my lovely wife, her two daughters and my son ans daughter. not to mention my extended family!)
2. my recovery (the last day i used any mind or mood altering substance was July 9, 1999)
3. the God of my understanding (a wonder-full power greater than myself that lovingly moves with me through this journey called life)
4. my employment ( i have 1 1/2 jobs that pay me well. with so many americans out of work, i feel blessed)
5. my blog (the gift of my own domain and the services of managing my blog and education had been one of the most wonderful happenings in my life during the past year. thanks Trinity.)
and i have to add one more!
6. my online blogger freinds. it is great to have you all in my life!
your turn!

Insomnia can become a form of contemplation. You just lie there, inert, helpless, alone, in the dark, and let yourself be crushed by the inscrutable tyranny of time. by partypoker

An apt and true reply was given to Alexander the Great by a pirate who had been seized. For when that king had asked the man what he meant by keeping hostile possession of the sea, he answered with bold pride. 'What thou meanest by seizing the whole earth; but because I do it with a petty ship, I am called a robber, whilst thou who dost it with a great fleet art styled emperor. by poker online

Homosexuality is not 'normal.' On the contrary, it is a challenge to the norm; therein rests its eternally revolutionary character. Note I do not call it a challenge to the idea of the norm. Queer theorists - that wizened crew of flimflamming free-loaders - have tried to take the poststructuralist tack of claiming that there is no norm, since everything is relative and contingent. This is the kind of silly bind that word-obsessed people get into when they are deaf, dumb, and blind to the outside world. Nature exists, whether academics like it or not. And in nature, procreation is the single, relentless rule. That is the norm. Our sexual bodies were designed for reproduction. Penis fits vagina: no fancy linguistic game - playing can change that basic fact. However, my libertarian view, here as in regard to abortion, is that we have not only the right, but the obligation to defy nature's tyranny. The highest human identity consists precisely in such assertions of freedom against material limitation. by free casino games

1. Angry people no longer drag me into their emotional, episodic rage.
2. Who and what I am is more important than anything anyone does to me or thinks about me.
3. Once in a while I wake up on someone's couch two or three states away and realize that all I have to do today is point my motorcycle down the road.
4. Attending meetings never fails to allow the solution to whatever problem I suffer to be revealed to me.
5. The God of my understanding has one giant sense of humor.

my health, physically as well as mentally
for the program of AA, bringing order and sanity to my life
for my wife, encouraging me, having faith in me, and for being there for me
for my animals, their unconditional love is not taken for granted
for my job, and being able to do what I really enjoy doing (working with computers)
there are many more and I could go on and on ... but, I am at work and really should be working :)

this is an easy one. in no real order...
*wife n daughter: they have shown me what love and life are all about.
*me, my health and i: i consider it good therapy to give myself some equal time here. i am proud of my progress spiritually, mentally and physically. more importantly i am thankful for it.
*HP: not the computer company. the spirit. were it not for HP, i'd still be screwing all this up. HP is the glue and then some.
*family: been spending more time with mine and appreciating my wife's. it's a good thing.
*YOU: the online community, PARTICULARLY the addicted members reading this. you have made this path more than "easier" (whatever the fuck that is). you have made it enjoyable. i am thankful for you helping me realize i am not alone and that this whole path i am on is in part a gift.
THANK YOU!
